Though they’re better known for European black metal and death metal heavy weights such as Emperor and Burzum, the U.S. division of Candlelight Records has been signing bands since 2001. So far they’ve taken on:
Sourvein releases their third EP on Candlelight September 30, 2008 then returns to the studio for a new full-length record slated for early 2009. Billy Anderson has been confirmed as producer/engine-ear.
Anyone familar with the Southern Sludge scene has likely heard of this band. Sourvein has been wreaking havoc on stage since 1993, has released two full-length albums, two EPs, and contributed to numerous splits, including their first release with the infamous Buzzov~en in 1996.
Much like that group, Sourvein been banned in their hometown, had considerable line-up changes, and include only one original member (Kirk Fisher in the case of Buzzov~en, Troy Medlin in the case of Sourvien). The group has also been through a number of labels, rarely sticking with one for more than a couple of releases. In fact, much of the time the labels simply released and distributed albums—no contract was signed.
Singer Troy Medlin and guitarist Vincent Burke’s also have a side project, namely, Hail!Hornet. The super-group (which also includes Dixie Dave Collins of Weedeater and Eric Larson of Alabama Thunderpussy) played their first show a couple of weeks ago with Deadbird and re-released their self-titled album on I’m Better Than Everyone Records.
Sourvein tours relentlessly, several times a year in fact. Here are the remaining live shows:
The Candlelight deal was actually announced mid-tour. While Sourvein has released material on several different labels, this is their first deal to be announced as a "signing."
